Frequently Asked Questions

What is Sangre Del Sol?

Sangre Del Sol is the local chapter of the Camarilla for Broward and Palm Beach counties of Florida. We play LARPs using the World of Darkness: Minds Eye Theater rules published by White Wolf.

What is a LARP?

LARP stands for Live Action Role Playing. It is a Role Playing Game (RPG) much like D&D or World of Warcraft in that you take on the role of a fictional character that is involved in the story being told by the game. You determine how your character acts and re-acts to the other characters and situations in the game. LARPs differ from other types of RPGs in that it is more like improvisational theater. You physically act out the actions of your character and are encouraged to wear a costume appropriate to what your character would wear.

What is the World of Darkness?

The World of Darkness resembles the contemporary world, but darker, more devious, more conspiratorial. Humanity is losing hope as it is secretly preyed upon and controlled by supernatural creatures such as vampires, werewolves and wraiths. One facet that sets the World of Darkness apart from most other horror fiction is that these creatures are not solitary predators to be hunted down and destroyed, but they are numerous and intelligent; enough so to form secret societies, develop various factions and allegiances, and use humans as pawns in power struggles and murderous games often lasting centuries or millenia.

What are the different Venues?

White Wolf and the Camarilla have broken the World of Darkness into several different venues based on the different types of supernatural creature being played in the venue. The venues are Vampire: The Requiem, Mage: The Awakening, Werewolf: The Forsaken, Promethean: The Created, Changeling: The Lost (wrapping up the old chronicle and about to be restarted), and mortals. All but the current Changeling venue co-exist in the same world and have the possibility of affecting each other. However, cross-venue play is discouraged but allowed if there is a good enough of a reason to do so.

What venues are played locally and When?

Locally, we play the Vampire: The Requiem and Mage: The Awakening venues. This has more to do with a lack of interest to have enough people show up to the games of the other venues than anything else. We currently run our Mage and Vampire games on the same day, usually the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month, though we occasionally change the dates to avoid conflict with other larger Camarilla events. Our next game day is May 19th (this Saturday). Mage usually starts at a little after 2:00pm and Vampire starts after sunset (a little after 7:00pm). Contact me if you are interested in attending one or both of these games.

What if I want to play in the other Venues?

You can still play in the other World of Darkness venues via online games over IRC or by traveling to other domains that are running these venues (like Orlando which runs all but the mortals venue).

Can I play my character at other domains?

Yes, because of the way the Camarilla is set up, any character you play can be play at any other location with games in the same venue. It is all the same game and events of one location can effect other locations. In fact, the Camarilla encourages you to travel and play in games of other domains and even conventions by setting up regional, national, and even global plots that require people from different areas to work together to resolve the plot. There are even global e-mail list for the different venues and groups within each venue to discuss the various things going on.

What requirements are there to join?

Any one wishing to join the Camarilla must be at least 18 years of age and pay a $20.00 yearly membership fee. The Camarilla also allows first time members to try the Camarilla for 6 months free. Go to here for more information on the free trial membership.
