Venue Synopsis
Nobody is completely sure why the Greater Ft. Lauderdale Freehold is
called The Unforgiving Sun. Some say it is an obvious reference to the
daytime star that fuels every storm which crashes against South Florida's
shores. Others say it is not the sun, but the *son*, and rumors persist of
a cruel and unmerciful changeling that ruled the Courts long, long ago.
What history and glory the Freehold may have had, was rumored to be wiped
clean by the coming of the most devastating hurricane to make landfall in
Florida, Andrew. It was told that Hurricane Andrew was a dark omen that
signaled the rise of Loyalists in the ranks of the sworn members the
Freehold. And like the storm’s fury with all of its elements wind, water,
fire, and lightning decimating the mundane, the betrayers would wash clean
all of what the changelings held dear. In the calm silence after the storm,
there was nothing left, the hedge grown wild again and covered the tragedy
of those dark days.
After the storm, and the uprising, had passed, most of those changelings
who remained were left without a home. Worse, what used to be familiar
paths through the local Hedge were now covered in overgrowth, now that
there were not enough hands to tend them. The Freehold lingered in defeat
for years. What locals remained put their efforts to rebuilding, but it
was slow-going with so few.
It was at the turn of the millennium that marked the return of changelings
to South Florida. Some came seeking a new home and others were finding
their way back home from Faerie. The hedge is tamer now and all manners
of creatures have come to find their place. A new Freehold now stands were
the old one once stood and on the eve of unifying the Lost inhabitants of
area have made a new discovery which could possibly shed a more light into
the happenings of the past. What truth and lies will be uncovered? What
new dangers await to be unearthed? Will history repeat itself and bring
about the next great Tempest?
Character Restrictions
All characters will be considered for play.
All characters under this VSS must have a full character sheet and
experience point log, a written background, and a full write-up for any
location-based merits (e.g. Hallow). Also a copy of your character sheet
must be submitted to the VST within thirty (30) days of creation and must
be updated every so often as to be accurate and benefit you as the player
if any discrepancies should arrive.
Visiting characters must have a full character sheet and experience point
log as well as proof of Membership Class. Retainers and Allies will be
accessible to visiting characters only if the player's VST contacts this
venue's VST with all pertinent information before play begins. All equipment
must be detailed on the character sheet, or the player must have signed item
cards.
The VST reserves the right to refuse any character entry into the game, and
may also deny individual items on a character sheet, item cards, or actions
taken by characters, as necessary for the overall health of the venue. If
any character discrepancies should arrive, the most current provided copy of
a player’s character sheet given to the VST will be the only acceptable copy.
Anything that is turned in to the ST staff for consideration or filing must
have Name, Cam Number, Date, and Character Name clearly and legibly presented.
Failure to abide by this guideline will result in the paper, card, character
sheet, or email being disregarded (however it will be retain for filing purposes).
ST Notes
Situational modifiers may be assessed as needed.
STs are not open to debate with regard to rules calls. However if the rulebook
is on hand and the rule may be referenced within a very brief period of time
(under 5 minutes), STs will review the rules and make a call based upon this
review. Once the ST has made it clear that a decision is final, discussion on
the matter will end until the scene is finished and an appropriate time for it
to continue is found.
Proxy Rules
Proxy requests must be submitted via email to the VST no less than seven (7)
days before play begins. Proxies should include a full write-up with character
history, intentions, and so on. The VST will portray the proxy to the best of
his/her ability based on the available information.
Soft proxies for PC-to-PC interaction in downtime (for example, for private
scenes) are available without approval. Hard proxies will generally not be
accepted without clear and good justification.
The VST reserves the right to deny any proxy for any reason.
Travel Risks
Visiting characters will not be subject to any risks when traveling to an
announced gathering via mundane means. Risks upon leaving a gathering,
however, are dependent on play.
Travel through the Hedge is always hazardous and may be dangerous to your
characters health. The level of danger is reserved at the discretion of
the VST.
Experience Point Awards
Players will receive a base of three (3) experience points for attending
a game for at least two hours. Players portraying multiple characters may
split their award between the characters however they wish. Additional
points may be awarded for the following, to a maximum of 5 points per game:
- Costuming and props
- VST's good role-play award
- Player's good role-play award (taken by show of hands after game)
- Near Death Experience
- Visiting Player (traveled more than 1 hour to attend the game)
