Nobody is completely sure why the Freehold is called The Unforgiving Sun. Some say it is an obvious reference to the daytime star that fuels every storm which crashes against South Florida's shores. Others say it is not the sun, but the *son*, and rumors persist of a cruel and unmerciful changeling that ruled the Courts long, long ago.
Regardless of the Freehold's origins and distinct lack of continuity, it persists to this day. Though its membership is different, the common purpose in uniting the changeling residents of the Greater Ft. Lauderdale area remains the same.
The real break in the story of this varied group occurred fifteen years ago.
It is told that when Hurricane Andrew crashed against the area in an orgy of destruction, there was a group of Loyalists that rose from the ranks of the Freehold's sworn membership. And as the wind and rains wreacked havoc on the homes of mortals, the betrayers systematically dismantled the Hallows of the changelings. Some of the changelings fought back, others fled. Many were captured and never heard from again.
After the storm, and the uprising, had passed, most of those changelings who remained were left without a home. Worse, what used to be familiar paths through the local Hedge were now covered in overgrowth, now that there were not enough hands to tend them. The Freehold lingered in defeat for years. What locals remained put their efforts to rebuilding, but it was slow-going with so few.
It was at the turn of the millennium that fortune changed. All at once, a bundle of others came to South Florida; some, because it was their home, and they found it upon escape from Faerie. Others, to seek their fortunes and other more worldly reasons.
Now, the paths through the Hedge are tame once again. The Courts are full of intrigue and merriment, the Goblin Markets find business when they open, and more make their way Home every day.
For those few who remember the past, it is a time to celebrate. But those few also cannot help but wonder... what if the great storm comes again?
All characters will be considered for play. To enter play during soft role-play, a character must have at least a three-paragraph written background in addition to choosing a Seeming, Court, Virtue, and Vice.
Once hard-roleplay begins, all characters under this VSS must have a full character sheet and experience point log, a written background, and a full write-up for any location-based merits (e.g. Hallow).
Visiting characters must have a full character sheet and experience point log as well as proof of Membership Class. Retainers and Allies will be accessible to visiting characters only if the player's VST contacts this venue's VST with all pertinent information before play begins. All equipment must be detailed on the character sheet, or the player must have signed item cards.
The VST reserves the right to refuse any character entry into the game, and may also deny individual items on a character sheet, item cards, or actions taken by characters, as necessary for the overall health of the venue.
Proxy requests must be submitted via email to the VST no less than 48 hours before play begins. Proxies should include a full write-up with character history, intentions, and so on. The VST will portray the proxy to the best of his/her ability based on the available information.
Soft proxies for PC-to-PC interaction in downtime (for example, for private scenes) are available without approval.
The VST reserves the right to deny any proxy for any reason.
Visiting characters will not be subject to any risks when travelling to an announced gathering via mundane means. Risks when leaving a gathering, however, are dependent on play.
Travel through the Hedge may be dangerous at the discretion of the VST.
